Ashbury St Mary
St Mary’s is the parish church for Ashbury, Kingston Winslow and Idstone. Although the church building is located at the top of the village the church is very much in the centre of village life, along with the Free Church, primary school, village hall and pub.
We are a very open and welcoming congregation, meeting regularly on Sunday mornings at 11.00am. Over a month we celebrate Holy Communion, Morning Worship and an All-age service. Additionally we meet on Thursday morning at 8.00am for matins, and monthly on a Saturday for a Men’s breakfast and a breakfast Bible study. A highlight of village life is the stations of the nativity generally held on the Friday before Christmas in which the Christmas story is retold around the village. The church building dates from the twelfth century when, on the site of an earlier Saxon church, a Norman church was constructed. The building would probably have been cruciform in plan, with a nave and entrances to north and south. Through the ages the church has been enlarged and altered to make it the building it is today. A detailed history can be found in the church.
